Aveleda Friesian Stud is situated in Kwa-Zulu Natal between Winterton and Colenso. The owner, Wessel Basson, has always had a passion for horses and had his first horse at the age of 2. As a child he would spend all his time with these magnificent creatures. At a young age, his parents instilled the value of working hard for what he wanted. He has a great appreciation and understanding of what he does and is very fortunate to have horses in his life. He is a natural horseman and has enjoyed many horse related sports and participated in gymkhana in his young days. He was in the mounted infantry unit in the military. He started playing Polo in junior school and has only given it up in recent years. But his heart yearned for some time and the empty stables were haunting him... It wasn't long after he sold all his polo ponies that he started with the Friesian breed, a breed that he always admired.
