About the FPSSA

The FPSSA, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to both promote and preserve the beautiful Friesian horse through strict registration standards.
The FPSSA is the only studbook in South Africa recognised by the Het Friesch Paarden Stamboek (FPS) for the registration of purebred Friesian Horses; the FPSSA is also a member of the World Friesian Horse Organisation (WFHO), which is the controlling body of all foreign Friesian Associations Worldwide (e.g. Southern Africa, Austria, Mexico, etc.).

The FPSSA registers only Purebred Friesian horses, offspring of a registered sire and dam. The FPSSA offers assistance and advice with the importation, purchasing, showing, training and breeding of Friesian Horses.

MEMBERSHIP:

The FPSSA has three tiers of membership Full membership, Half membership and Temporary membership.

Full membership:
This is for the Breeders and owners who wish to have their horses judged on an annual basis and breed . As a full member you will receive the following

  • Regular newsletters with local and international news
  • Voting rights
  • The official FPS laminated breeding paper for your registered horses
  • KFPS website access
  • FPSSA Breeders access
  • The opportunity to have your horses judged annually by international judges
  • The opportunity to compete in all approved competitions in all disciplines as long as your horse is registered with the FPSSA
  • Full member of the KFPS in Holland with the option to purchase the Phryso magazine

Half membership:
This is for Friesian horse owners who are only wanting to compete and not breed. It is for the owner of 1 or 2 horses. As a half member you will receive the following

  • Regular newsletters with local and international news
  • A copy of the FPS laminated breeding paper of your registered horses
  • The opportunity to compete in all approved competitions in all disciplines as long as your horse is registered with the FPSSA
  • No voting rights

Temporary membership: This is only for show purposes and entitles a horse owner to compete at shows ONLY IN THE RIDDEN AND HARNESS CLASSES. If the horse is not registered with the FPSSA it is not allowed to compete in the IN –HAND classes under any circumstances. Temporary membership has no voting rights.
